Gresley Rovers manager John McGinlay has swooped to sign a trio of players.
The Moat chief has been involved in intensive negotiations throughout the summer and now three more new names have been added to the books, following on from the signings of John Allcock and Chris Gray.

The new arrivals boost McGinlay's total of close-season signings to five with the former Scottish international still working to bring in at least two more recruits.

Prolific striker Chris Parkins has been signed from Mickleover Sports, while left-sided midfielder Alex Green has arrived from Stalybridge Celtic.

The return of Ashley Brown, who first wore Gresley colours during the Frank Northwood reign, completes the trio of signings.

Said McGinlay: "Parkins is a very sharp striker, about 5ft 10in tall, and has got goals in him - he scored plenty for Mickleover last term and we're obviously hoping that continues at Gresley. Ashley Brown's a right-sided defender who was playing in the Leicestershire Senior League when we spotted him last season. And I'm really excited about the signing of Alex. He was with Bury as a youngster and he's still only 21 but a very accomplished player. He's just over 6ft but has skilful feet and I'm delighted he's joined us".

And the former Scottish international striker insisted his summertime wheeling and dealing was not yet at an end.

"We've been working hard over the close season," he said, "to get players signed up as quickly as possible before other clubs can jump in. We've come across a few who've wanted to hedge their bets and see if others come in but we have bypassed players like that. And I'm still working on two more players, one who's on holiday at the moment and another with whom we're in negotiations."

  • Former Rovers frontman Simon Tucker, who turned down the offer of a Rovers contract to join Leek Town on more lucrative terms, has now been offered a trial with Morecambe.
