Double Moat swoop

John McGinlay's summer rebuilding programme at Gresley Rovers has begun in earnest, the Scot making two new signings and tying up six existing squad members for next season.
The Moat boss has been in the area all week and described his trip down from his home in Bolton as being " a very successful few days".

McGinlay has snapped up John Allcock, who began last season at Hinckley United before moving to Hucknall Town, and attacking midfielder Chris Gray, who has played for Shepshed Dynamo and Coalville Town.

Said the Moat boss: "John can play at centre-half or central midfield and will give us that experience and presence on the field. As far as Chris is concerned I am very excited to have signed him because I think he will be a terrific player. He can play up front or as an attacking midfielder and will score goals for us. He has the ability to go past people and is good on the ball".

McGinlay also revealed he had agreed terms with a striker and said he hoped there would be "two or three" more signings on the way.

As for those players already at the Moat Ground, McGinlay has secured the services of Richard Wardle, Steve Coates, Ian Bluck, Mark Peters, Andy Cheetham and Neil Kitching, although not all have signed contracts.

The Moat boss said he will be speaking to the rest of his squad and would probably start releasing players next week.

One player who will not be joining Rovers is former Burton Albion defender Matt Smith who was at Moor Green last season.

"I had spoken to Matt and he agreed to join us," said McGinlay. "But Solihull came in with an offer we could not match and he decided to join them."
