Matt Smith

Gresley Rovers Player of the Year, Matt Smith has agreed a new deal that will keep him at the Moat Ground for the forthcoming season.
The 31 yr old centre half had been considering an offer to return to Dr Martin's Premier Division Solihull Borough whom he was with previously, but manager Gary Norton was delighted to have him commit his future to the Moat Ground.
"Matt is a quality defender and his experience will be vital to us this season. We met last week and agreed terms after it looked like he might be on his way to Solihull. He had a great season last term and I'm looking for him to kick on to the next level which we both know that he is capable of."

Since the end of the season Gary has started talks with a number of last season's squad and a number of players that we are looking to bring in key areas. Gary added "We have made formal offers to three players and invited a small number of others who are interested to pre-season training."

Chairman Mark Evans commented that he was "delighted" that the Club and secured the services of Matt, "he is a pivotal individual – both on and off the field of play – we tried to bring him to the Club a few years ago, having got him last year. I would hate to have lost him again".
