Boss praises Gresley heroics

Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay has hailed his players as "magnificent" for their efforts during the club's hectic fixture schedule.
The Moatmen have just completed a five game run in the space of nine days, but their fixture headache is not over yet.

Tomorrow they play host to Tiverton Town before travelling to Weston-super-Mare on Sunday, then next weekend they travel to Redditch on Saturday and visit Cinderford the following day.

McGinlay has been forced to call on all his playing resources with players being physically unable to play in so many games in such a short space of time.

His cause has also been hindered by injuries to key players, suspension and squad members being unavailable for midweek matches because of work commitments, but he has been delighted with the response he has received.

Said the Moat boss today: "The players have been absolutely magnificent during this run of games. Full-time professionals would not be asked to do what they have done and you have to remember that my lads have jobs as well. They have stuck to their task and just got on with things - there is nothing they or we can do about the situation,"

McGinlay confirmed he had never experienced such a hectic schedule in his playing days. "The worst situation I have encountered while being manager of Gresley Rovers has been playing two games in three days like we did over Easter, but not two games in two days," he said. "This is what we are faced with over the next two weekends and that is not something I had to deal with as a player. The fixtures would have been tough enough anyway but having to play two games on successive days makes it that much harder. We played Tiverton the other week and lost 4-0 and I have to say I think they are the best team we have played. I am encouraged by the fact that we played well down there with quite a few players missing and I am hopeful we can get something out of tomorrow's game."
