Matt Smith turns down Ilkeston

Gresley Rovers have received 7 days notice of approach for defender Matt Smith from Ilkeston Town.
However, the club is pleased to announce that Matt will be staying at the Moat Ground.

He has said he is enjoying his football at Gresley and does not wish to leave.

Gary Norton spoke to Matt Smith last night about Ilkeston's approach and the conversation was very short: "He's very happy with his football at the moment" said Norton, "He's loving every minute of his time at Gresley. The club is very local to him, he gets on superbly well with the management, players and supporters and has no intention of moving anywhere.

"From my point of view I'm delighted with Matt's decision. He is a massive part of our squad and has done very well for us this season. He is a pleasure to work with and we are all delighted that Matt hasn't given a move away any thought.

"Obviously my players are attracting a lot of interest from other clubs partly because we are doing well and partly because our small budget situation is widely known and we will occasionally loose the odd player because of that.

"However, the professional way that we try to run things both on and off the pitch means a lot to some players and Matt will not be the last to turn down the possibility of extra money to move elsewhere."
