Jon explains his reason for leaving
“The decision to leave Gresley was made for family reasons. I discussed it with the Chairman who told me to go away and think about it. I then rang him to say I had decided to leave and he was fully supportive.
“To some degree it was a difficult decision, but by the same degree my family have to come first.“The decision had nothing to do with another club but at some stage I would like to get back into full-time football, it is just that at this moment in time, my family must come before football.
“I stressed to Mark that my decision was for purely personal reasons and that no other club was involved. It is sad that it had to come to this but it was a decision I had to make.
“It’s not an ideal way to leave, but there are worse circumstances in which I could have left like being called to the ground and sacked.
“I have had a fabulous time working with Gresley and thoroughly enjoyed last season. Gresley gave me my first chance in management and I’m thankful for that. I hope I’ve had a positive effect on the club.
