Gresley Rovers are poised to bring in new players after learning that midfielder Tony Marsden could be out of action for up to 10 weeks.
Marsden limped out of Tuesday’s 2-1 Barclay’s Southern League Cup defeat with an injury that had now been diagnosed as a broken bone in his calf.

Rovers boss Steve Dolby said today: “It’s similar to an injury that kept Scott Elliott for three months last season and obviously it’s a serious blow to us.

“Tony’s position is not one we’ve got a lot of cover for and it means we’ll be looking round to strengthen the squad. We’re down to 15 players now and that’s not enough to carry on challenging for the title.”

The blow is particularly badly timed as Rovers face a vital FA Vase 4th round game against Bridgnorth Town at the Moat Ground on Saturday with no possibility of bringing new names into the squad in time.

One possibility for Dolby is to move Graeme Rigg, whose only appearance this season have been as a sweeper, to the left side of midfield and restore Gil Land, substitute on Tuesday, to central defence.
