Bezza misses semi mission

Top scorer Brian Beresford misses Gresley Rovers’ West Midlands League Cup semi-final trip to Westfields tonight (7.45).
The veteran striker, who hit his 31st goal of the season on Saturday, has holiday commitments – but ironically may have missed the first leg tie anyway after picking up a second half injury in the win over Blakenall.

Manager Frank Northwood, meanwhile, predicts a tough time for his double-chasing team.

“Westfields is the bleakest place you could wish to go to but we’ll be looking for a result – there’s no question of us closing shop and looking to finish them off at our place.

“We’ve not played well there over the past few seasons so we’re going for revenge after getting beaten there at the start of the season.”

Rovers lost 2-1 to Westfields back in August but made amends with a 4-1 win at the Moat Ground in December.

Northwood drafts midfielder Ryan Venning and sweeper Steve Astley into a 14-man squad. Defender Jason Minton is cup-tied.
