Rovers plan a spying mission
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood has pledged: “We won’t be going to Berkhampsted without doing our homework.”
Rovers came out of yesterday’s FA Vase third round draw with a trip to the Buckinghamshire based Diadora League Division Two club on December 14 and Northwood said last night: “Obviously we know very little about them at this stage. They’re sixth from bottom of their league but that doesn’t mean a thing. They beat last season’s quarter-finalists on Saturday and any side that reaches the last 64 has got to have something going for it.

“But we won’t be going there in the dark – I shall have them looked at beforehand.”

A feature of Rovers’ march to last season’s Vase final was the scouting missions of Kenny Blair but with the former Burton Albion boss now based in Devon, Northwood will have to dip into his network of contacts to get an assessment of Berkhampsted, who beat Harwich & Parkeston – conquered 2-0 in last season’s quarter final by Rovers – 2-1 in Saturday’s second round.

Meanwhile, Northwood has more injury headaches for tonight’s West Midlands league clash with title rivals Rushall Olympic at the Moat Ground (7.30).

Twelve-goal striker Brain Beresford is a certain non-starter after picking up an ankle injury in Saturday’s Vase win over Blakenall, while goalkeeper is doubtful with a groin strain
