TV show for Vase heroes

Television cameras will descend on Gresley Rovers Moat Ground this Saturday as part of an on-going project to document a year in the life of the South Derbyshire club.
As the Moatmen take to the field to kick off their 1992 FA Vase campaign against West Midland leaguers Blakenall, the cameras will be rolling.

It is the second visit of the BBC crew who made a pre-season trip to the ground in July to film the first segment of the half hour documentary which is expected to be shown next year on the Midlands Report programme.

And Saturday’s Vase game will be poignant reminder of the glory and excitement from last season which sent the Rovers into the national limelight last season.

Gresley were picked for their TV special because of their friendly atmosphere and links with the local community.

Next year the club celebrates its 110th anniversary, and one of their biggest fans, Derek Kinsey, will also be caught on film by the roving cameras.

Mr Kinsey first visited the Moat Street ground in 1945 and has a huge collection of memorabilia on the club including extensive lists of match reports and statistics plus 1,000 match day programmes.

He also has team autographs stretching back more than 40 years and spends much of his spare time researching the club’s history.
