Gresley Beaten At Coleshill

Despite a slightly flattering score line for the home side Gavin Hurren’s squad put on a good show on another 3G surface.

Hurren included five new faces as he decides his squad for the new season and with Alby and Harry Lansdowne away along with Jordan Fitzptrick and young keeper Ben Allsop still out injured, the side had a different look about it for this game.

Joe Haines had to rescue his side early in the game as a short pass back was latched onto before being lobbed over Dan Crane but Haines charged back to clear off the line.

The Southern League Central outfit took the lead on 19 minutes with a shot from the left just inside the area which beat Crane.

Paul Sullivan was inches from levelling for Gresley three minutes later when David McDermott sent the striker through on goal but his shot curled just wide of the far post.

Coleshill were under pressure and a corner from the right from McDermott flew through to the far post were Haines steaming in at the far post could only fire into the side netting.

As the first half came to a close Gresley had two more decent chances with Sullivan beating the home keeper to the high ball but his flick cleared the bar by inches this was followed by a shot from McDermott which whistled the wrong side of the near upright.

Gresley made a disastrous start to the second half as substitute Jake McIntosh slid the ball into his own net from close in.

The visitors continued to make chances and Sullivan went close to grabbing a goal back for Gresley but the home keeper made a fine save tipping a well struck shot over his bar.

Hurren continued to make changes and many of the new players seemed to make an impact. One of them, Devante Reittie, scored a good goal with the young winger running on to a superb through ball before firing across the keeper and into the far bottom corner.

Crane did well to push away a shot from distance but Coleshill claimed a very fortunate third goal just on the final whistle when a corner from the left was played out and the ball launched towards the far post and after clearing one home player seemed to catch the one on the far post and bundle into the net.
