No Charity For Dynamo
Holders Gresley moved a step closer to lifting the Coalville Charity Cup for a third successive year after cruising into the final with an 8-2 at Shepshed Dynamo.
Despite including only Alex Townsend and Liam Guest from the starting line-up which won at Sheffield FC in the FA Trophy, the Moatmen effectively killed the game as a contest after racing into a 5-0 interval lead.
The hosts had little answer to the recently signed Alex Steadman, who helped himself to a first half hat-trick, and Royce Turville - making his first start for two months and weighing in with a double.
However, the main talking point of the first half was a stonewall penalty which referee Murphy failed to award the hosts when they trailed 2-0.
Every subsequent decision was met with derision by the Shepshed bench and ended with manager Chris White being removed from the dugout.
Youth team player Trafford Pickering was given an early opportunity to impress after replacing Marc Strzyzewski, who required hospital treatment after receiving a head injury.
Within minutes of the restart, Mickey Lyons made it 6-0.
Pickering crowned his debut by conceding the penalty which enabled Michael Paparozzi to reduce the arrears.
In the final 10 minutes Steadman grabbed his fourth goal of the night before Jack Langston, who like Steadman was cup-tied for the Sheffield game, extended the Moatmen's advantage to 8-1 before Jonathan Jones claimed a late consolation for Dynamo.
In the final Gresley will face the winners of the Bardon Hill v Ibstock & Ellistown United semi-final which was scheduled to be played last night, with Coalville Town's ground likely to be the venue for the final on a date still to be confirmed.
