Sherwin Athletic vs Gresley FC

Sherwin Athletic 2 - 4 Gresley FC

Gresley Reserves traveled to Alvaston Park to play Sherwin Athletic of the Midland Regional Alliance League in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup South 2nd round and returned with a 4-2 win and place in the 3rd Round draw.

Alex Townsend replaced the unavailable Max Atkin in goal, Connor Ward switched to right back and Ryan Clemson did the same to left back, Joe Bale returned to the starting eleven alongside James Hemingway at the heart of the defence. Harry Hughes returned on the right of midfield, Josh Garland moved back into the midfield alongside Zack Hill and Kane Lee came in on the left side. Josh Dutton was joined up front with Sam Hammerton who impressed from the bench last week at Walsall Wood.

Gresley went ahead in the 7th minute when Kane Lee's wicked cross from the left side could only be headed into his own net by a Sherwin defender.

Hughes, Dutton and Hammerton all had chances to double the lead but it was the latter who finally did in the 39th minute when Dutton broke free on the left and his early shot was parried by the keeper and Hammerton was the first to react to the loose ball to open his account for the season.

After the break Gresley seemed to have wrapped up the game in the 59th minute when Josh Dutton curled the ball round his marker leaving the keeper unsighted and the ball found the bottom corner.

But within a minute of making it 3-0 Sherwin scored a well taken header after a cross from their left side.

Gresley restored their three goal lead in the 72nd minute when Hammerton again was on hand to stab home a rebound after a Dutton shot from within the six yard box.

Sherwin did get another goal back but Gresley Reserves had done enough to progress into the next round.
