Gresley boss Frank Northwood had a point proved for him this week. The veteran supremo came under fire from some supporters when he recalled Andy Moore from Bilston to bolster his injury hit squad.
But the diminutive midfielder-cum-striker followed a man-of-the-match performance at Malvern on Monday with another good display in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Matlock in the Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final.

Said Northwood: “I took a bit of stick about bringing ‘Mooro’ back but we’ve got to build the squad up. Of course, the lads who got us through to the semi-finals of the Vase will take priority but everybody is going to play a big part from now until the end of the season.

“Craig Weston has been disappointed to be out the side recently but Stuart Stokes has come in and got a couple of goals and he’s the man with the shirt at the moment. Weston is keen to get back and that’s the way it should be.”

Northwood has admitted the Evans Halshaw Floodlit Cup now comes bottom of his list of priorities and the club is likely to be represented by reserve team players in the final three games of that competition.

But with a two-legged League Cup semi-final, a Derbyshire Senior Cup replay and 16 league games – plus two FA Vase semi-finals against Littlehampton – to come, it is clear fringe players like Gary Gamble – another big success at Malvern – and back-from-injury Martin Dick can look forward to plenty more football before May 11th.
