Rovers carry on building work

Gresley boss Frank Northwood is continuing his efforts to build up a title winning squad at the Moat Ground.
Northwood was waiting today to see if he had secured a loan deal with Hinckley Town for left back Jimmy Childs, a member of the Leicestershire side’s Banks’s League championship squad last season.

Northwood was also hoping for the nod from an experienced but yet unnamed striker while former Rovers utility man Michael Guest was due to make a decision over a move back to South Derbyshire.

Northwood’s need for additional recruits was stepped up this week when it emerged that full back Martin Dick faced a cartilage operation.

Said Northwood: “A cartilage operation can keep a player out for as little as four to six weeks, but in Martin’s case I’m not optimistic about the rest of the season.

We’ve certainly missed Martin – he’s a very good player – but I’m also anxious to get Scott Elliott back into the middle of the park.”

Gresley will play Raunds Town of the United Counties League in the third round of the FA Vase at Gresley on December 15.

Raunds beat Holbeach 3-0 in Tuesday’s second round replay and Northwood said: “Raunds are second in their league so they must be a good side, but we’ve got what we wanted – a home draw which is good for us and good for the fans. “

That means Gresley face a run of six consecutive home games during December.

After Tuesday’s trip to Shepshed Charterhouse in the Evans Halshaw Floodlit Cup they play Rocester (Dec 8), Darlaston (11), Raunds (15), Tividale (18), Olsdswinford (22) and Hinckley Athletic (26) before going on their travels, to Wolverhampton Casuals (29).
