Coach Steve Dolby today denied that Gresley Rovers are in the grip of a Rocester jinx.
And he predicted that Rovers would prove it by winning tonight’s Banks’s League Cup first round replay at the Moat Ground (7.30pm).

Dolby said: “People say that Rocester are our bogey side, but I don’t think that’s the case. It’s true that we haven’t won any of our five previous games against them, but four of them have ended in draws so if we win tonight the record will be all-square.

“We are capable of beating anyone in the league on our day and in that respect Rocester are just another team. Obviously there is a local derby feel about it and they always seem to be able to raise their game against us.

“I’m sure they’ll do the same tonight, but I’m confident that this time we’ll beat them.”

Both teams await fitness tests on key midfielders nursing knee injuries.

Gresley’s Richard Denby has missed four games, while Rocester’s Nigel Mottram was injured during Saturday’s game against Tipton Town.
