Rovers out to bury the jinx

Coach Steve Dolby believes Gresley Rovers will bring the smile back to the faces of their fans tomorrow.
Dolby is hopeful that the Moatmen will make amends for their FA Cup defeat and the loss of their 100 per cent league record by ending their Rocester jinx tomorrow.

Rovers travel to the Rivers Field with a dismal record against their new arch enemies.

Four league confrontations have yielded just three points for the Moatmen , who also suffered a 3-0 defeat at Rocester in the pre-season JCB Trophy tournament.

But with morale at a low ebb at the East Staffordshire club, Dolby believes it is time to cash in.

He said: “It could backfire on us because they’re already adrift in the league and they could make the cups their priority.

“Realistically, though, we must have a chance. Their fortunes are on a bit of a low at the moment and it’s a good time to be playing them. We’re all surprised by their slide because on playing record they were the second best team in the league last season and were among the favourites for the title.

“I just hope we can make the most of the situation because it’s time we got a win against them under our belts.”
