McGinlay facing a cup dilemma
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers player-boss John McGinlay faces a dilemma ahead of the trip to Dr Martens Eastern Division Stamford in the third round of the League Cup tonight (Tues 7.45pm).
McGinlay must decide on whether to direct operations from the bench or the pitch.

He thinks he is more useful to his side on the field of play - something he did during Saturday's 1-0 league victory at Blakenhall - but hinted he may be on the bench tonight.

Said the Moat Ground chief: "It is a difficult one. I think it is better for me to be on the pitch at the moment as I can gee the players up and encourage them. I have got Phil Barber and Alan Titterton on the touch line, so there is no problem there, but I might be on the bench tonight."

McGinlay is looking for consistency in his side's performances after varying results in the three games he has seen so far.

"We had a good win against Sutton, a poor performance against Congleton, then another good win on Saturday," he said. "We are looking to get a bit of a run going and to build on Saturday. The lads battled on Saturday and we are in for another tough test tonight as both teams will want to progress."

Rovers will be without defenders Matt Warren (hamstring) and Andy Cheetham (back) tonight.
The players will encounter further changes tonight as McGinlay has ordered them to eat bananas before the game.

McGinlay has decided the players' usual pre-match snack of ham cobs should go off the menu - to be replaced by tuna sandwiches, two bananas each and a bottle of water.

"We just want to make sure they have something healthy before the game," he said.
