Rovers slip into the red

Gresley Rovers made a loss of £1,636 last season compared with a profit of more than £9,000 the previous year.
But secretary/treasurer Peter Jenkinson told supporters at the club’s annual meeting that the deficit was due entirely to money spent on pitch renovation and minor ground improvements.

Gresley’s bill for ground expenses more than doubled to £8,000 in a turnover of £50,000.

Rovers’ hugely successful tote poured more than £32,000 into the club’s coffers, while match receipts and Banks’s League prize money raised another £13,000.

The club did not receive the usual donation from the social club, which hope to use its profits to carry out major improvements.

On the debit side, team expenses were down £3,000 at £35,767.

President Gordon Duggins and chairman Peter Hall were re-elected along with secretary/ treasurer Peter Jenkinson, vice-chairman Dennis Everitt and fixture secretary Dave Hackett.

Committee members were re-elected on bloc.

Rovers meet Derby side Little Eaton in their final warm-up game of the campaign at the Moat Ground tomorrow night (7.30pm).
