Prolific striker Simon Tucker looks set to become the first Gresley Rovers player to sign a contract following the lifting of a Football Association ban.
Tucker will have talks with manager John McGinlay and chairman Mark Evans after tomorrow's FA Umbro Trophy third round clash at Congleton in a bid to thrash out a deal.

Rovers are looking to move swiftly to tie up players on deals after the FA lifted the ban on the Moatmen signing players.

The embargo was imposed when it was discovered the club owed wages to former players.

Rovers have now reached agreement with the players involved and assured them they will be paid when they have funds available - a move which resulted in the FA agreeing to lift the ban.

McGinlay was keen to resolve the situation when he was appointed manager and feels it will give the club and the players, the security they need.

Tucker has scored 16 goals in 17 appearances for the club, including two hat-tricks - the latest of which came in Rovers' 4-1 Dr Martens Cup victory at Sutton Coldfield Town on Tuesday night.

His prolific form has attracted interest from at least 10 other clubs since his move to the Moat Ground and he looks set to become the first to put pen to paper.

Said McGinlay: " We wanted to sit down this week and get the Tucker deal done, but the timing wasn't right with such a big game coming up tomorrow. But after the game on Saturday we will sit down and hopefully get something sorted out.

"It will not just be Simon Tucker either, we are hoping to do a couple of deals at a time - it is not possible to do everyone at once. When I arrived at the club it was one of the things I wanted sorted out, you need to know that players will be there next week. Hopefully it will help us attract players to the club as well, they like to have the security of a contract and they feel more part of things."
