Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood declared today that he is still in charge at the Moat Ground despite strong rumours that he had quit the club.
Moat Ground despite strong rumours that he had quit the club.

Rovers fans had been stunned by talk yesterday that their manager had resigned. They had heard that Northwood had reacted angrily to suggestions that he would lose his job if the Banks’s League title wasn’t captured.

But today although admitting there was a disturbance Northwood denied reports of his resignation.

“As far as I’m concerned I’m still the manager at Gresley. The team spirit is good and I am fully committed to the job of winning the title. As far as anything else goes it would be better if you asked the chairman.”

And Rovers chairman Peter Hall also hit back at the rumours that spread like wildfire amongst the club’s supporters.

“Frank is still the boss,” he said.

Gresley went back to the top of the table with a 4-2 win over Hinckley Athletic yesterday but could lose the leadership if closest rivals Rocester win at Tipton tomorrow.

Rovers are next in action on Thursday when they visit Harrisons.
