Northwood sounds off
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Angry Gresley Rovers’ boss Frank Northwood has launched an outspoken attack on Banks’s League title rivals Blakenall after Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Bloxwich.
Northwood accused the fourth-placed side of “going out to maim” after a bruising battle in which three Rovers players received injuries that could threaten their fitness for Saturday’s visit of second placed Rushall Olympic.

Northwood saw full back Martin Dick (hip) and striker Paul Acklam (ankle) limp off after half an hour and midfielder Michael Guest finish up with a badly gashed shin before storming: “I couldn’t believe how dirty they were. If I ever have to resort to those sort of tactics – going out to lame people – that’s the day I’ll give up the game.”

Northwood was also critical of Coventry referee Ivan Murray who booked two players – Gresley’s Dick and Andy Walsh of Blakenall – but could have filled his notebook in a game littered with fouls.
