Alan Titterton will apply for the post of permanent Gresley Rovers' manager if his team can produce a third consecutive victory by over turning Weston super Mare at the Moat Ground on Saturday.
The caretaker chief has so far not formally joined the 20-strong group of hopefuls who aspire to the job but after seeing his team produce a thrilling penalty shoot-out win over Hinckley United at the Moat Ground in the Dr Martens Cup first round tie last night, the 53-year old made his intentions plain.

Titterton admitted his latest triumph coming hard on the heels of a 4-0 FA Umbro Trophy win over Rocester in his first game in charge on Saturday, had not gone to plan after a string of first half injuries disrupted his side.

But he praised his team's battling qualities saying: " We changed it round just before half-time and we felt if we could get a goal we could go on to win it.

"We got the breaks we needed and I was confident when it went to penalties. I knew Ian would make some saves because he did it for me three times last season in the reserves.

"But I wouldn't like to single out individuals - it was another team performance. Hinckley have only conceded 12 goals in the league this season so I think we've done very well."

Titterton and assistant Gary Norton now plan to make changes for Saturday with Carl Middleton (ankle), Karl Reynolds (knee), Ian Bluck (toe), Andy Doughty (groin) all doubtful while striker Dave King is unavailable with his wife due to give birth.

Said Titterton: "we've got a few injuries but I think it's also time to give one or two a rest.

"If we win I will apply for the job but, whatever happens, I'll accept the decisions of the board. At the moment the players are playing for me. I've not got a magic wand but the atmosphere is good in the changing room."

Meanwhile Rovers' chairman mark Evans revealed he had received 20 approaches from would-be managers ranging from one nine-year-old boy to some of impressive pedigree.

Said Evans: " Making an appointment won't be a quick process but it doesn't need to be because we're in good hands at the moment."
