Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood last night told supporters: “We can’t promise you another goal feast.”
Northwood’s warning came as Rovers prepared for tonight’s Banks’s League Cup first round clash with Wednesfield Social at the Moat Ground (7.30pm) – only three days after an impressive 6-0 away league win against the Black Country side.

“There’s no such thing as a formality in football,” said the Rovers boss. “It’s another game and we both start with a clean slate. I expect them to make it harder for us than on Saturday and it’s worth remembering that until we stuck six past them they had conceded only ten goals in eight league games.”

But Northwood was confident that Rovers would progress to a quarter final tie way to arch rivals Oldbury United.

He said: “Obviously I’m optimistic and the way my lads are performing at the moment I expect us to be in the next round. It’s taken a bit of time and patience but we’re starting to get things together.”

With another sharp frost forecast, Rovers are holding a lunchtime pitch inspection.

Secretary Peter Jenkinson said today: “There’s a more than reasonable chance that the game will go ahead. There’s a half-inch covering of snow over most of the pitch and it’s quite soft underneath.”
