Caretaker boss Alan Titterton did his chances of becoming full-time Gresley Rovers manager nothing but good on Saturday as his team hammered East Staffordshire rivals Rocester 4-0 to claim a place in the third round of the FA Umbro Trophy.
Titterton confessed afterwards the result had been "a dream come true", saying: "You can't ask for anything more than that."

Said Titterton, who had received a "best of luck" call from sacked predecessor Brian Kenning before the game: "We were probably slightly lucky in the first half - they had a couple of chances. But the boys gave me a lot of encouragement in the dressing room then went out and really battled for me. I kept faith with them because, Brian said, they'd been letting themselves and the fans down and obviously Brian too. I just hope we can pick the club up and, if we can keep getting results, it might slow up the appointment of a new manager.

"I've always been interested in the job but I've been here 10years and I just want Gresley Rovers to do well. If a new manager came for the good of the club that would be fine by me. But while they ask me to do it I'll do it."

Moat chairman Mark Evans revealed he had already received three enquires about the manager's job- before it had even been advertised.

Evans said he had spoken to all three but added: "We want to make an appointment soon but we won't rush into it. We're in safe hands at the moment and it's an important appointment".
