Gresley new boy Dave Morrison grabbed two of his side’s six goals in Saturday’s Moat Ground stunner then declared: “This side is good enough to win the Banks’s League.”
Hot shot Morrison played a crucial part in his side’s astonishing 6-2 demolition of Northern Premier League Buxton.

But euphoric Moat manager Frank Northwood was singling out no individual for praise afterwards. “They were all magnificent,” he said.

Northwood’s praise was fully justified after what was undoubtedly his team’s most impressive home performance of the season.

But as a bewildered Buxton began the long journey home in complete disarray, there were few happier than former Oldbury striker Morrison.

“I wasn’t very pleased with my performance on Tuesday against GKN so it was great to bounce back with two goals today,” he said. “I realise after today’s performance what a good side I’ve joined. Gresley play good football and they create chances. We’ve got every chance of winning something now, especially the league title. If we play like we did today no-one will stop us.”

“Over the moon” Northwood – who had predicted on the eve of the game that “we’re not going to score six against a side like Buxton” – was in full agreement with his latest acquisition. “That was tremendous stuff. For once the crowd were right behind us and we responded superbly.”

And Northwood predicted greater things to come from his new striker pairing of Morrison and top scorer Martin Devaney.

“Dave and Martin looked really good together and complemented each other really well.”

Gresley now meet Alfreton Town in the two-legged final on dates to be fixed.
