Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood believes winger Gary Stevens could be the ace in his pack at Tamworth tomorrow.
Rovers need to overcome a 1-0 deficit from their Banks’s League Cup semi-final first leg if they are to reach the final for the second year in succession.

And Northwood his pinning his hopes on the skill and vast experience of the former Willenhall Town and Stourbridge will o’the wisp.

Said Northwood: “Gary missed the first leg through illness, so he’s going to be a surprise package as far as Tamworth are concerned. They’re a good side going forward, but I’ve said all along that they are vulnerable at the back. If Gary can hit the by-lines and knock in some good crosses I see no reason why we shouldn’t exploit their weaknesses and get a good result.”

Northwood’s only cause for regret on the eve of the game is that he is unable to field his strongest team.

Classy full back Martin Dick is best man at a wedding, central defender Dean Page is cup tied and midfielder Jon Laws is suspended after collecting three bookings.

“Obviously it’s going to be a tough assignment for us, but it’s not an impossible one if we are positive in our thinking.”

Laws earned a sharp rebuke from Northwood for his indiscretions.

“All these bookings were for dissent. It’s high time he started to learn a lesson. We can do without this childish behaviour.”
