Calling All Gresleyites!!
Don’t forget we have our fundraising day at the club this coming Sunday with doors opening from 12 noon. Rain or shine organiser of the event Gary Norton is appealing to anyone connected with the club to pop up at some point in the afternoon and help support the club raise some much needed funds.
Discussing the plans for the day Gary told the clubs website, “We are really hoping the local community get behind the event. Its been some years since we have tried to organise something like this and we are hoping people will support it and help us raise some much needed funds along the way.

The junior section will be doing some stuff on the pitch from around 12.30 and then at 2pm we have the much anticipated “heavyweight” clash between Gresley FC Supporters Club and Burton Albion Supporters club renewing the Moat Ground rivalries between red and yellow on the Moat ground once more.”

“The main event kicks off around 3pm with a reunion game of ex Gresley stars of the past turning out giving our supporters a chance to see them in action once more.”

“We have had confirmation from the likes of Richard and Michael Wardle, Kev 'the Viking' Allsop, Brian Horseman, Gil Land, Craig Weston, Daz Turner and Paul Wardle to name a few and we are still awaiting confirmations from a few others from the Rovers days of old. Unfortunately several members of past teams have sent apologies with the likes of Stuart Ford, Paul Acklam, Kieran Smith and Gareth Jennings in particular disappointed at not being able to make the event for various reasons but all pass on their best wishes to supporters of the club.

"I had a long chat with Stuart Ford on the phone yesterday and he’s absolutely gutted at not being able to make it and I had a similar chat a couple of weeks back with Paul Acklam who is away on holiday as a quite a few others."

He added, “From the Gresley FC era of the last decade we have a whole host of players who will be taking part and I’m delighted at the response from ex-players who represented the club including many from the back to back title winning seasons of 2011 and 2012. We are still working on confirmation on some names but overall hope to have over 30 players turning out plus a few more who are unable to play in the actual game for various reasons but promised to come down. It should be a great day”

Elvis Gresley and Billy Brewer should be making an appearance at the Moat Ground and may even be having a race against each other or taking part in some penalty shoot out fun for the kids The Social Club will be open throughout the afternoon and there will be plenty of drinks and hot food available during the afternoon.

Please spread to word and bring the family down for what should be a great afternoon at the Moat Ground and a chance to catch up and remember the good old days.

Entrance to the event will be £3 for Adults, £1 for children U16 & U7’s will be free.
