Moat chief sees red

Gresley Rovers are to consider making an appeal against the sending off of midfielder Steve Coates during Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Bedworth United.
Coates was shown the red card along with The Greenbacks' Scott Clamp in the 45th minute of an often stormy clash after the two exchanged punches during a melee apparently prompted by a clash between Rovers skipper Richard Wardle and Bedworth midfielder Ian Drewitt.

However, there appeared to be credence to Coates' after-match claim that he was merely protecting himself, with the situation becoming more complex after the Rovers number eight reported comments allegedly made to him by Kettering referee Gary Capps to Moat chairman Mark Evans.

Said Evans "I shall be asking to see the referee's report in the light of what Steve claims he said to him before sending him off. It is likely that we will be appealing." The incident simply made a bad afternoon worse for Brian Kenning's team, who dominated much of the play only to go down to two wonder strikes from Nicky Kirk before losing keeper Richard Selby with a shoulder injury in the 81st minute.
