Brian Kenning (pictured) finally ended his long search for a striker last night by snapping up Carlisle youngster Simon Tucker, then urged the rest of the team to "wade in with a few" to get Gresley's season going.
Tucker, 19, has had trials with Carlisle United and Barrow, but has agreed to join Gresley after deciding to continue his studies at Loughborough University.

Tucker will make his Rovers debut at home to Bromsgrove Rovers on Friday night and Kenning cannot wait to see him in action.

"He's a real goal scorer who is full of potential," said the Moat boss. "He has been with three or four league clubs but we were tipped off that he was moving to the area and we followed it up. He trained with us on Saturday and last night when we made him an offer which he accepted. He had a trial with Barrow at the start of the season and scored against Workington but got injured. Barrow were interested in signing him but the trip from Loughborough to Barrow is a long one and we are delighted to have got him."

Kenning is hoping the arrival of Tucker will give his side the confidence boost they need and is still hoping his new striker can help push the Moatmen into the top half of the table after a disappointing start to their Dr Martens Western Division campaign. "I think we have a good talent. He is keen to learn and at his age that is what it's all about," said the Moat boss.

"He has the knack of scoring, is sharp, bright, has got a brain and is aware of what's going on but we have got to get the ball to him. I am still looking for others to wade in with a few - that's all that's missing. We have got to start to turn okay performances into good ones. It's just confidence and one win could see us take off. I believe we have the players here to do well in this league and I am looking for us to have a good month now and who knows what will happen in November and December." But the arrival of Tucker does not mean the end of kenning's player search. "I put seven days in for Mickelover striker Chris Parkin but he turned us down and I will continue to look at players who will improve the squad," he said.
