Austin agony
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers ‘ hopes of lifting the Banks’s League Cup on May 4th were today dealt a second major blow when keeper Karl Austin announced himself unavailable for the game.
Austin enters hospital this week after a two-year wait for a nose operation to clear a breathing problem.

That means tomorrow’s home league game with Oldbury will be Austin’s last of the season – leaving manager Frank Northwood with a major headache as he plans for his first trophy win since arriving at the Moat Ground 2 ˝ seasons ago.

The loss of Austin is Rovers’ second crippling setback of the week.

Top scorer Brian Beresford is unlikely to play after suffering a serious hamstring injury at Atherstone on Monday.

Northwood said today: “We are trying very hard to get Brian fit in time and he will be seeing a specialist again this morning. But while he’s out it’s up to the rest of the team to get the goals.”

Northwood recalls St Andrews striker Des Parry to a 15-man squad four the fourth meeting between Oldbury and Gresley in as many weeks.

But Parry will only play if Martin Devaney fails to come through a late fitness test.
