Tough on Rovers
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers will head for the land of vodka and Rugby League for an appointment with fear in the fourth round of the FA Vase on January 17th.
Rovers’ hopes of another bumper Moat Ground pay day evaporated yesterday when they were drawn away to Warrington, the home of Vladivar and the 13-man game.

It is just about the toughest assignment Gresley could have expected and pits them against the side which took holders Halesowen Town to a semi-final replay last season.

Rovers’ manager Frank Northwood said: “Obviously we would have liked another home draw, but you have to be philosophical about it at this stage of the competition. You have to take the rough with the smooth and, to be honest, I don’t think it can be any tougher than our last three Vase ties, even if they were at home.”

There was no joy, either for Rovers’ Bank’s League compatriots Atherstone United at Tamworth.

Adders face a trip to Nottinghamshire to meet former finalists Rainworth MW, while Tamworth will be away to either Rossendale or Droylsden.

Surprise package Rocester, playing in the Vase for the first time this season, face the prospect of a tantalising home game against Halesowen, if the Southern Leaguers beat Watton United in a replay.
