Star summer signing Paul Stringer has been booted out of the Moat Ground by Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood.
Stringer, a close season capture from Bank’s League rivals Harrison’s is one of three Rovers stars to be released.

Northwood said last night: “Stringer has been playing on his name. He’s not doing the business – and I obviously feel I’ve got players who will.”

Also out are striker Reg Priest and attacker-cum-central defender Nigel Barrows.

Said Northwood: “Ray Skeemer has come back into the reckoning after injury and that means there is no place for Barrows. Priest is well down the field. He’s not fit and he’s not willing to get fit.”

Now Northwood plans to move quickly for a replacement for Priest, one of the Moatmen’s most impressive performers in last season’s run-in to the Banks’s League runners-up spot.

His target is Chasetown’s Peter Mould, a tall mobile leader of the line who scored a classic goal against Gresley last season.

The striker was due to have talks with Northwood this weekend with an early signing aim.
