Captain's Log
Since my last notes, we have secured three points out of six, with two indifferent performances.
Last Tuesday night at home we beat Belper with a last minute speculative effort from Gooders. I thought throughout the game we defended soundly, and although they hit the woodwork twice, I genuinely felt we were the better side, and kept the ball with more purpose than our opponents. The manner of the goal was unfortunate from Belper's keeper's point of view, as I know exactly how he felt, but it was about time we had a bit of luck.
Saturday's game was in stark contrast. Not wanting to make excuses but we did go to Lincoln with a depleted squad through injuries, suspensions and unavailabilities, but we still had more than enough to give a far better account of ourselves than we did.
We conceded sloppy goals, and all five can be argued were of our own doing in one way or another. I don't want to go on about Saturday because all the players know we performed considerably under par and we must put it right tonight.
A quick mention about Gooders, who in my opinion has been fantastic so far this season. He had his critics last years for various reasons, but thus far this season his goals, assists and general all round play have been fantastic, and he deserves all the plaudits for this.
I hope you enjoy the game tonight, and many thanks for the support, and to all those that travelled the long way on Saturday, thank you, and we endeavour to repay your support tonight with a positive outcome.
