Captains Log
Good afternoon to everyone, and welcome to this afternoon's FA Cup fixture at the Moat Ground, as we welcome all from Stafford Rangers for what I'm sure will be an entertaining fixture.
As many will be aware I have been away on business for the past three weeks and whilst away the lads by all account have put in some stern performances and have recorded some great results, notably the away win at Leek Town, and the progression in both the FA Cup and Trophy. In my absence its been great to hear that Tom Gutteridge had come in and played very well, and I was genuinely disappointed for him when I heard the news of his injury. I'd like to take this opportunity also to pass on my congratulations as well to George Woodward, who had a great first team debut away at Sutton and is a major contributing factor to why we have progressed into the next round with a very impressive performance.
Tuesday night we played Sheffield FC at home, and how good it was personally to be back playing and back with the team, however upon the conclusion of the 90 minutes I'm not sure many of you supporters were glad to see me back!
The game was one where we were beaten by a better side, but we certainly didn't help ourselves with giving away three goals, the second was a poor mistake by myself, and was just one of the contributing factors to a very poor personal performance throughout, and one I apologise to all.
Those that know me will know I am my own worst critic and I set very high standards for myself, and am the first to admit a mistake or a poor performance, what does surprise me, and at time some what disappoints me is the reaction of some individuals. I appreciate Football is all about opinions, and that's one of the reasons we love the game, but please note I feel very privileged to play for Gresley FC, and I can say that captaining this club is the sole highlight of my playing career and a responsibility I genuinely cherish, and always give my everything to the club on and off the pitch.
I guess what I find so surprising is on the occasion I make a mistake people are so quick to jump on my back question my selection and captaincy, but I never hear too much the other way, of the positives after a good game, or an important save. I have always known and appreciated my self confidence, even the way I look or and my mannerisms can be confused by some for arrogance and cause those that don't know me to form a dislike towards me, of course your all entitled to form your own opinion.
But, that aside always know that every time I pull on the Gresley shirt I do so with great pride, and give everything I have to ensure the team wins any given game. I'd just like to add a quick thanks to those that took the time to message me personally via Twitter, to offer words off sympathy after Tuesday night, that meant a lot.
I hope you all enjoy today's game, against what will be a very good Stafford Rangers team, as we both look to extend our stay in this seasons FA Cup, and earn some much needed increased prize money for the club,
Thanks for reading,
Gaz
