More Reserves News!
The weekend victory for the 1st team was the only highlight of my day on Saturday as the Reserves crashed to a 2-1defeat at Willenhall Town.
Although it was our 1st league defeat since losing at Hinkley on September 22nd, the performance on Saturday and indeed the last few games have been far from Satisfactory. There were only a couple of lads who came out of Saturdays game with any credit and that is not good enough. One of those who had an excellent performance was Carl Timms. Coming back into the starting line up after a nasty knee injury at the end of September he battled all game in midfield an capped it with a fine equalising goal after 80 minutes. Unfortunately our defending gift wrapped 2 early Christmas present goals and 3 points to Willenhall.

Some of our performances earlier in the season were truly outstanding, so I know we can play good attacking football but I’m starting to get the impression that a few of the lads in my squad do not hurt enough in defeat. We are struggling to find the target up front and that puts pressure on the defence and when they are not defending well and giving silly goals away like we are currently then there is only ever going to be one result.

People tell me that winning isn’t everything for a Reserve side and being someone who hates being beaten, I find that hard to agree with. In my opinion we are a good enough for a top 3 spot in this Reserve league but there are a few players who have been hiding in recent weeks and that has cost us valuable points in recent games. 1 or 2 who think that they are better players than they are moan when they don’t get a chance and when given one they don’t take it.

I’m looking for a big improvement this Saturday when we entertain Hinckley Utd at the Moat Ground and there will hopefully be one or two new faces on show for us all to have a look at.
