Wakefield Pre-match News

16th March 2007
Manager Gary Norton is facing a selection crisis as injury and illness affects his squad with as many as 10 first team players all doubtful for the trip to Wakefield.

Definitely missing are Tony Hemmings, Andy Simpson and Ravi Sangha. Karl Brown and Shaun Ridgway are suffering from a virus that has hit several personnel at the club.

Barry Woolley who missed last weekend's game due to illness is a doubt after having to leave the field on Wednesday in a reserve team game after just 10 minutes.

Paul Edwards, who scored a hat-trick in Wednesday's game had to be substituted in the second half due to an ankle injury and is a doubt for Saturday.

Nicky Carter is struggling with a groin injury and Tom Groves has tight hamstrings.

Skipper Colin Hoyle should be fit for Saturday having missed the Chorley game with a groin injury. He completed an hour in the reserve team match midweek and was replaced as a precaution.

Norton said: "We took Colin off more as a precaution with Saturday in mind and he should be okay.

"However, Paul Edwards took a nasty knock to his ankle and could hardly walk when he left the ground

"Barry Woolley lasted just 10 minutes. After being ruled out last Saturday, he was in bed all Monday, but felt better by Tuesday. However, as we saw in a similar situation with Dan Douglas the other week, there is big difference between feeling better and having recovered enough to play in a football match.

"Nicky Carter is touch and go, as is Tom Groves, with neither of them involved in the midweek match.

"Karl Brown and Shaun Ridgway have gone down with this virus which seems to be sweeping the club and we will just have to see how they are.

"I just hope nobody else goes down between now and Saturday. It looks like we may have to call on a number of reserve team players.

"They say when it rains, it pours, and it certainly looks like the odds will be against us on Saturday."
