Gresley Rovers have donated their share of the proceeds from the Bass Charity Vase to a local multiple sclerosis sufferer Des Brown.
Mr Brown, a father of two, was a former tae kwon do expert but now needs round the clock attention since being diagnosed with the debilitating condition and is now hoping to raise enough funds to travel to Holland for pioneering stem cell treatment.

Manager Gary Norton said: "Many Bass Charity Vase committee members are involved with Gresley Rovers and read about Help 4 Des in the local newspaper, so wanted to help.

"As a team we try to raise money for charities each year and we are happy to be involved in this."

The Bass Vase was founded in 1889 as a football competition to be competed for annually by major teams, with all the money raised by the games donated to medical-related charities.

It is believed that the Vase itself is the most valuable trophy in English football.
