Elvis Auditions for TV
Elvis Gresley

Elvis Gresley

Gresley Rovers mascot Elvis Gresley travelled to Manchester today to take part in auditions hosted by actress and TV personality Liza Tarbuck aimed at finding the UK's 'best amateur dog'.
Last year Elvis became the first football mascot to be given membership of the prestigious Kennel Club and was also invited to appear at the 2005 Cruft's dog show at Birmingham's NEC which he did and thoroughly enjoyed.

Elvis has had a busy 12 months not only making appearances at home games at the Moat Ground but also assisting in the switching on of Christmas lights at both Swadlincote and Linton.

Gresley chairman Mark Evans said: "We heard about the search for the best amateur dog and put Elvis forward.

"The producers liked the idea of having a football mascot and Elvis went to the studio to perform basic dog skills and tricks for the cameras which he successfully carried out.

"He was filmed taking part and we've been told footage will be used in the programme later this year. The show is very much in the X-Factor and Pop Idol format, but for dogs.

"We don't really expect Elvis to win, because he's not really a dog but we're delighted he's taking part because it helps to raise the profile of the club."
