Rovers net new deal

Gresley Rovers have teamed up with a telecom consultancy firm to net the club a pioneering "win-win" deal.
The Moatmen have joined forces with Mezenet Communications in a bid to boost their links with businesses and bag the South Derbyshire club up to £1,500 a month.

The deal, believed to be one of the first nationally, means that firms can help swell the Gresley coffers without having to shell out anything extra on their phone bills.

Mezenet is aiming to sign up businesses with bills of £250 or more per month to have calls provided through former Norweb offshoot Your Communications. Mezenet would then pay Gresley half of the 10 percent commission on any bill.

Gresley chairman Mark Evans welcomed the scheme and said it was a step to building links with the business community.

He said: "It's a win-win situation. This is a great way for Gresley to demonstrate it can support local businesses and they can support us with no direct cost to them. We are very keen for Gresley Rovers to become part of the community and we need to be building relationships with business. We are more than delighted to get involved."

Mezenet Communications was launched in November and now operates between London and the North West of England. Director David Smith a "semi-supporter" of Gresley is based in Newhall and has 27 years experience in the telecommunications industry.

He said Gresley was the first club he had approached but now he had also put the scheme to officials at Nationwide Division Two side Peterborough.

He said for companies with an average bill of £1,000 per month, 10 percent would be paid to Warrington - based Mezenet and 50 percent of this figure would be passed to Gresley - netting the club £50.

He said: "We want to see Gresley Rovers do well next season and they need some good local support. They need the cash and we would like to help - and we have got to look at ways of introducing businesses to YourCom. We feel this could snowball. We're not a low-cost routing company. We estimate that we could save companies up to 30 percent on their bills through a range of telecom services.
