The new football season started at five o'clock on Saturday afternoon for Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay.
After seeing his team end a hugely disappointing Dr Martens Western Division campaign on a high note by defeating Cinderford Town 4-0 the Scot immediately set his sights on the major rebuilding job he now faces.

"We played very well and produced some good football at times but it's easy to do that when the pressure's off," said the Moat boss. "It doesn't stop for me now. I keep going. There are people I've spoken to and I can now officially approach them. I'm hoping to have the majority of them signed up before the club's presentation night on May 19th.

"There will be players coming back on July 7th with a question mark over them and they'll have to change that question mark into a tick. There will also be some that won't be coming back. We've finished fifth from bottom and that tells a story. We're looking to bring in quality players to raise the profile of the club and to improve performances on the park. The next couple of weeks will be busy but there's no way we're starting pre-season without knowing what players we've got. The best players will have gone elsewhere by then."

However, McGinlay insisted he had "really enjoyed" his first job in football management, saying: "It's been an eye-opener for me and some of the things that have gone on this year will stand me in good stead for the future. In this league, if you're organised and disciplined you'll do ok and that's something we haven't been."
