Gresley begin their season

Gresley Rovers begin the build up towards their first season in the Beazer Premier Division when they entertain Chesterfield for the Derbyshire Rosebowl.
Manager Steve Dolby names a 15-man squad including defender Nick Stanborough, on trial from Hinckley Athletic, and former Burton Albion full back Corin Holness.

Stansborough, a 23-year-old, 6ft 4in centre half, is on contract with the Middlefield Road club who are reported to require a 500 fee.

Rovers are only one of a string of clubs interested Beazer Midland Bedworth are said to be another but Dolby said today: Weve got to be first in line for him because hes been training with us. Hes looking quite strong and Im looking forward to seeing him in a game.

Holness, meanwhile, is back for a second go at the Moat Ground after a stint there at the beginning of last season.

Said Dolby: He did quite well with us but then we signed Robbie Briscoe and we had to let him go. He went to Belper Town but got injured and now hes back for another trial with us.

Rovers close season Simon Osbourne and Paul Galloway, are on a lengthy list of players on holiday which includes skipper Richard Denby, Stuart Evans, Tony Marsden and Craig Weston.

Of greater concern to Dolby, though is the absence of full back Nathan Foster, who has injured a cartilage in training.

Said Dolby: Hes got to wait two weeks before going to the hospital for tests. Its not desperately serious but its something we could have done without at the moment.

Chesterfield, meanwhile, have pledged to bring a strong side for the annual Moat Ground clash with Dolby saying: It should be a good workout for us and a good game.
