Gresley Rovers are looking to the future with plans to set up a string of boys' and girls' teams next season.
The club have been holding trials for junior sides with 52 youngsters attending a session held on Saturday and a similar number turning up on Tuesday.

Now the club are confident they will be able to field boys' mini-soccer teams at under-7, under-8, and under-9 levels next term along with an under-9 girls' side, while there are also hope of establishing teams in under-12 and under-13 age groups.

The club already runs a successful colts side which has been playing at under-14 level in the Coalville Youth League this season.

Said Rovers chairman Mark Evans: "I said when I came to the club that I wanted to establish a youth programme so Gresley can generate its own future and also as part of its community programme. We're looking to find young talent locally. When you look at professional and top non-league clubs there are lots of players coming out of Derbyshire and we want more of those to pass through the Gresley Rovers dressing room. I'm pleased to say the trials have gone very well. I'm very excited by what is happening. We're looking to find a young Michael Owen in South Derbyshire."
