Five out for Rovers test
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers face being without five first choice players for tonight’s visit to Beazer Midland Division leaders Nuneaton Borough (7.30pm).
Full back Scott Elliott is definitely out after picking up a leg injury in Saturday’s bruising FA Vase battle at Bridlington while centre back Gil Land is “80 per cent certain” to miss what manager Steve Dolby described as “our most important league game of the season.”

With striker Paul Acklam (knee) and midfielder Tony Marsden (calf) both rated doubtful and defender Martin Dick ruled out by tonsillitis, Dolby drafts former Burton Albion teenagers Nathan Foster and Ian Scott into a 15-man squad with Foster certain to make his debut at right back.

Said Dolby: “It looks like a back-to-the-wall job but we’ve been in situations like this before and done well. I’ve always said the squad is good enough and I’ve got confidence in every one of them – they’ve got to justify that tonight.

“The main problem is having possibly three defenders out. We’ll have to make sure we do most of the attacking so they’re not under too much pressure.”

Dolby is aware, however, that his reshuffled side is facing one of the most potent attacking forces in the Beazer Midland Division.

“Nuneaton are a formidable side. I’ve said all along they’re the class side in our division, particularly coming forward. But they’ve had a few indifferent results lately – they lost at Yate and Weston and only won with a last-minute goal at Grantham, so there’s a lot of pressure on them to perform in front of what will be a very big crowd.”
