Gresley Rovers boss Steve Dolby and his assistant Malc Campion had an important meeting during Monday’s journey down to Forest Green – to pick Bridlington’s team for tomorrow’s FA Vase semi-final!
Both Dolby and Campion had watched Bridlington in action during the previous two weeks – and were dismayed to find the Humberside club fielded no fewer than 18 different players in their two starting line-ups.

Said Dolby: “Malc and I went through the players we’d seen and tried to work out what their team would be for Saturday – and I reckon we’ve just about got it right. We’ll find out on Saturday.”

Campion, meanwhile, made a highly pertinent point saying: “We’ve watched them twice and they’ve played two totally different sides, so they’ve obviously got a very big squad and a very strong squad – but they’ve only got one team.”

One thing the managerial pair were able to conclude without too much difficulty was that Rovers face a hell of a game on the East Coast tomorrow.

Said Campion: “They’re a strong side – and we wouldn’t expect anything else. The side I watched seemed strong down the middle. The central midfield player was a big lad and the centre forward was a good player.

“They’re sure to give us a very hard game but, strange as it might sound, I’d rather be playing them on Saturday than a team like Racing Club Warwick, who gave us a very difficult game on Saturday. Bridlington are a hard-working side, top of the Northern Premier First Division, and have only lost three games in the league all season, so they demand our respect. I’m sure they respect us too.

“They’ve got a nice playing surface at their ground which should suit us. What we’ll be looking for from our players on Saturday is for them to show the same commitment as they did in our very first Vase tie of the season, against Rushden & Diamonds. Bridlington are no better than them. If we can match that performance there’s no side in the competition better than us.”
