The tortuous injury problems of Gresley Rovers striker Kieron Smith have taken another turn for the worst.
Smith, who recently attempted a comeback in Sunday football only to break down after a few minutes, had been told he was suffering from a torn cartilage.However, the injury has now been re-diagnosed as a snapped cruciate ligament the same injury that kept Paul Gascoigne out of the game for over a season.
The bad news for Smith is that he now faces major knee surgery, and will not play for at least 12 months following the operation.
Smith said: Im gutted about it I feel terrible.
Rovers boss Steve Dolby said: Its very bad news for Kieron and the club and obviously makes the signing of Mark Hurst more important to us.
