Rovers swoop for striker Hurst
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers were today poised to complete the signing of striker Mark Hurst from fellow Beazer Midland club Leicester United.
And manager Steve Dolby revealed that the 23-year-old former Grantham player is keen to join Rovers that he will be paying his own transfer fee!

Said Dolby: “We heard that Mark had become available so we made approaches for him. A small fee is involved but the lad is so keen to join us that he is going to play for the rest of the season without receiving any wages, in effect paying it himself.”

The Mickleover-based player joins Gresley as Robbie Briscoe departs for Burton Albion with Dolby saying: “He’s a good replacement for Robbie. From one player who’s slightly disenchanted we’re bringing in one who’s very keen to play for us.”

Hurst will not be available for tonight’s trip to Yate Town but striker Martin Devaney is fit to replace Briscoe in a 13-man squad.

Dolby today predicted a tough examination of Rovers’ title aspirations against the Somerset club, who have just signed former Bristol Rovers defender Geoff Twentyman.

Said the Moat boss: “A lot of top clubs have dropped important points in midweek games recently and it’s up to make sure we do a good job and come back with a win. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
