Smith aims to gun down Reds

Striker Kieron Smith aims to hit the goal trail again as Gresley Rovers go into their top-of-the-table Beazer Midland clash at Redditch tonight.
Redditch were beaten 2-1 at Bedworth on Saturday but held on to a second place in the division – one ahead of Rovers – having played five league games to Gresley’s three.

But Smith, who grabbed his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Stourbridge, said: “We were really determined to do well at Stourbridge and we’ll be really determined at Redditch.

“We all went out with the same attitude at Stourbridge and it paid off for us. We’ve got to be looking for more of the same tonight.”

Striker Martin Devaney, with a recurrence of a long standing groin injury, and suspended midfielder Tony Marsden are definite non-starters while Richard Wardle is rated as extremely doubtful with a gashed shin.

Utility man Scott Elliott and defender Dave Swainston stand by for their first appearances of the season.
