Merthyr Tydfil pre-match news
Gresley Rovers entertain the top-of-the-table Merthyr Tydfil in Saturday’s clash.
Manager Jon Newsome thinks that Gresley can put a dent in the visitor’s championship hopes and have nothing to fear.

He said: “We are capable of giving anyone in this league a run for their money – if we are on top of our game. It’ll be down to whether we want to compete. We will need to be on top of our game against Merthyr and that means going out with the right attitude and starting quickly.

“After beating Mangotsfield in the last home game we should have a bit of confidence and to be honest we should have beaten Merthyr at their place. I thought we produced one of our best performances. But, you don’t get to the top of the table without being a good side and they are a good side.

Newsome will have to choose who to name as keeper for tomorrow’s game. James Lindley has served his one match ban and is available and Mark Shiels, who played his first senior game for nearly two years, last week, is also in contention.

“Mark did himself no harm at Stourport,” said Newsome. “It’s a difficult decision and whatever I decide someone will not be happy but that’s what being a manager is all about.”

Steve Rutter has recovered from his rib injury and Newsome has also Neil Kitching available along with Andy Bourne with them all competing for a starting place.

Newsome is unavailable as he serves his final match of a 3 game ban and defender Ian Bluck has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cartilage injury that will require an operation.

Gresley from: Lindley, Shiels, G White, Cheetham, Evans, Wardle, Barrett, Hopkins, Gray, Peters, Bourne, Kitching, Rutter, Timms, Alexander, Moran, Yearsley.
