Richard beats the record
Richard Wardle's presentation

Richard Wardle's presentation

Before the game against Mangotsfield Utd at the Moat Ground Richard Wardle was presented with a cut glass rose bowl to commemorate him becoming the player who has made the most appearances for Gresley Rovers.
Last week at Cirencester Richard was made captain for the occasion as he beat Moat Ground favourite Barry Fitchett's total of 568 appearances.

Richard joined Gresley from Tamworth in October 1991 first playing as a triallist in the Johnson Cup game against Burton Albion and made his full debut against Malvern Town on the 19th October 1991.

He had to wait 6 months for his first goal for Gresley which came against Blakenall on 18th April 1992 and it won the West Midlands Premier League Championship for his club.

Richard has been voted Supporters Player of the Season for 4 years running 1998/1999, 1999/2000 2000/2001 & 2001/2002.

The picture shows Richard receiving his award from Barry Fitchett. Also pictured from left to right are: George Sutton (vice Chairman), Dennis Everett (Director), Steve Brooks (Director), Mark Evans (Chairman), Barrie Morton (Director), Neil Betteridge (Club Secretary).
